Three Bluff City, Tennessee, men filed a $500 million federal lawsuit accusing multiple local law enforcement agencies and officers of violating their rights last year while investigating a lawnmower heist in Abingdon, Virginia.
Bradley Craig, Jerry Craig and Gary Craig filed the suit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Greeneville, Tennessee, against the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Bristol Tennessee Police Department, Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office, eight named detectives and 50 unnamed officers.
It all started on April 22, 2017, when someone broke into Meade Tractor on Lee Highway and stole six John Deere lawnmowers. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office began investigating on April 24.
Theft charges were later filed against Jerry Craig but eventually dropped, according to Washington County court records.
